An institution of girls, technology and development

A common platform where students, professionals and beginners of a technology background come together to share ideas and skills, and to bring more girls into the ICT sector.

Our mission

The main goal of Girls In Technology is focussed on bringing and producing the skillset required for girls and women that will help them come across their technology oriented career. Within the vision of bringing more girls in the ICT sector, GIT works through mentorship and empowerment, events, blogs and web development.

Founded on March 28, 2015 by a team of seven girls, GIT gives students, professionals and beginners a place to exchange ideas, share skills and grow together in technology.

About GIT

Girls In Technology is a Nepal-based community built around a simple idea: more girls and women should feel at home in the ICT sector. Since its founding in March 2015, the organisation has worked as an institution where technology and development meet, gathering students, working professionals and complete beginners under one roof to exchange ideas, skills and encouragement.

The community describes itself as a common platform rather than a formal school, which means learning happens in many forms at once. Members share experiences through blogs, mentorship sessions, workshops, meetups and design events, while the website itself serves as a place where stories, inspiration and practical guidance are published for readers who want to begin their own technology journey.

Its stated mission centres on producing the skillset girls and women need to move towards a technology-oriented career. Rather than assuming expertise, the organisation focuses on awareness, hands-on practice and confidence building — helping participants understand coding, design, testing and application development as attainable, learnable professions rather than abstract or intimidating fields.

Working through mentorship and empowerment, GIT connects those who are still finding their footing with people further along the path. Regular gatherings and meetups create space for questions, pair learning and honest conversation about what it means to work in technology, and to encourage women to continue growing their skillsets and pursue leadership opportunities in the sector.

Alongside mentorship, the community organises events such as workshops, design hack sessions and gatherings that bring together varied backgrounds and skill levels. These occasions are deliberately inclusive, welcoming beginners, students and professionals into the same room, and they tend to be the moments where lasting collaborations and new ideas first take shape.

The emphasis on development extends beyond personal careers into building things. Members engage with web development and modern frameworks, contributing code, design work and written articles to the platform. A curated gallery, supporter and testimonial section reflects the wider circle of people and institutions that back the movement, while a contact and subscribe flow keeps readers connected and informed.

Vision-wise, the organisation is candid about how vast the opportunity remains. Bringing more girls into ICT is presented as a long, shared effort rather than a finished task, requiring sustained awareness campaigns, sustained mentorship and sustained encouragement across institutions, employers and families who believe a wider, more diverse technical community benefits everyone.

The broader development mission is what gives the community its character: technology as a route to empowerment and to wider participation in the economy. By publishing insights, hosting learning moments and celebrating shared journeys, Girls In Technology aims to inspire the next cohort of women to read, write, send, build and lead — one skill, one event and one shared idea at a time.
